FN James Martellini  of Assembly #496 joined D2 Master Joe Yekulis at New Hope Center in Downtown Lansing on Monday December 23rd to present an Operation Patriotism check for $1,000 to Division Director Nancy Oliver. The donation is used for the Holy Cross Homeless Vet Program located on the 2nd Floor of their building. Following the check presentation, Director Oliver showed off the outdoor shelter that had been purchased with the donations made by MI D2’s Operation Patriotism program during the past two years. This year’s donation will go toward purchasing new patio furniture for the outdoor shelter.

VAVS Battle Creek Director/FN Brian Wemple of Assembly #505 met with D2 Master Joe Yekulis at the Battle Creek VA Hospital to deliver a $1500 donation from Operation Patriotism along with $500 of In-Kind donations of baby supplies from the Ladies of the District on Friday December 13th. The donations were received by Volunteer Services Coordinator Todd Greenman, and distributed to the Women’s Maternity Program, the Personal Care Fund, and the Recreation Fund to meet Veterans’ needs during Christmas.

On Thursday December 5, 2024, MI District 2 made its annual donation in support of the Ann Arbor VA Hospital – Fisher House; a home next to the hospital that takes in the families of Veterans who are being treated at the hospital during extended stays. D2 Master Joseph Yekulis and VAVS Director John Yanok represented the District and presented a $1500 check from Operation Patriotism to House Manager April LaRock and Outreach Assistant Joel Collin. Operation Patriotism funds come from donations from the 22 assemblies that make up MI District 2 in the Lansing and Kalamazoo Dioceses. 

On Tuesday November 19, 2024, Master Yekulis joined our Honor Guard members from the Burton, Flushing and Fenton Assemblies for the Ground Breaking Ceremony of Sacred Heart Village in Flint. This is a project of Catholic Charities of Genesee/Shiawassee Counties and endorsed by Bishop Earl Boyea who was present for the ceremonies. At the start of the event, Master Yekulis joined with his Brother SK’s to present a $1,000 check to Director Katie Baxter on behalf of MI District 2 from Operation Patriotism.



On Tuesday November 26, 2024, members of Assembly #2050 of Howell gathered at the home of Blue Star Service Dogs along with Master Yekulis to share their award winning trophy from Supreme with Director Trisha Barnes and her staff. The winning project received the “To Be a Patriot” award from Supreme. Photos of these Knights will be used in additional promotions for this 501C3 non-profit program to continue to promote the positive impact of trained therapy dogs for Military Veterans returning home from conflicts who are suffering from PTSD.

On Thursday November 14, 2024, Msgr. Fedewa Assembly #2050 of Howell received a visit from Vice Supreme Master Ed Ponder and District Master Joe Yekulis at their monthly assembly meeting to receive the “To Be a Patriot” award given by Supreme at their annual Summer Conference in Quebec. The Assembly received the award for their work in support of Blue Star Service Dogs, a 501 C3 non-profit that trains therapy dogs for Veterans who are suffering from PTSD. The Assembly’s project was chosen as the winner in Michigan District 2, then went on to win in the Fr. Hennepin Province in Michigan & Ohio, and finally was chosen as one of three TBAP awards given out nationally at the Supreme Convention. More than 60 people were present for this special event, which also provided a catered meal for the SK’s and Ladies who were in attendance at St. Agnes Parish in Fowlerville, MI.

Over 50 quilted lap blankets were presented in person to admitted patients still undergoing medical treatment at this facility.

Friday, on November 8th, Brigadier General Carol Ann Fausone (ret.) welcomed Assembly 2050 Honor Guard members once again and were invited to participate in the 2024 Veterans Day Program at the VA Ann Arbor LTC Charles S. Kettles VAMC Hospital Complex. 
It should be noted that on May 21, 2024, the new VA Women’s “Brigadier General Carol Ann Fausone” Clinic” was dedicated in a ceremony featuring Bishop Joseph L. Coffey (Vicar for Veterans Affairs, Military Archdiocese) and the Guest of Honor, Brigadier General Carol Ann Fausone (ret.). This new Women’s Clinic has been recognized as the preeminent women’s VA medical facility in the nation.

On Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2024, Flushing Assembly #2211 held a special ceremony at St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Church in Geness County to commemorate the 22 veterans of our military services who die each day in our country from suicide. We pray for God’s intervention and help for those unfortunate souls who feel there’s no other way for them to live.

One of the newest members of the Cardinal O’Hara Assembly was the winner of the New Member Sword Award contest for being the first candidate to order his new uniform on the night of the Exemplification on October 5th. SK Scott York is our newest member from Chelsea Council #3092, and received his sword at the October 9th assembly meeting held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Ann Arbor. Congratulations Scott, and welcome to the team!

On October 5th, we celebrated the 89th Fourth Degree Exemplification for MI District 2 of the K of C in Charlotte, MI. We inducted 28 new members into our District this fall, and enjoyed a banquet with 145 members and their ladies at St Mary Parish. The photos begin with our Class Photo, followed by Lady Denise Yekulis’ Ladies Program featuring the Blue Star Service Dogs for Vets, then my brothers from Cardinal O’Hara Assembly in Ann Arbor, a tribute award to Degree Team Member Gaylend Meeks with State Deputy Barry Borsenik, and finally our Class Honoree Fr. Dwight Ezop.

On Tuesday, September 24th, District II Master, Joe Yekulis. State Deputy Regional Representative and VAVS Director, John Yanok, Assembly 2050 Faithful Navigator, Paul Funk and members of the Assembly 2050 Honor Guard were present for a “Graduation Ceremony” conducted at the Blue Star Service Dog training facility at 5520 M-36, Pinckney, MI. 48169.

The final Officer Installation Ceremony took place on Monday August 26, 2024 at St. Anthony Parish in Buchanan, MI. Both Buchanan Assembly #3542 and Benton Harbor Assembly #476 were present with their wives for the ceremony. Fr. Bob Creagan, Kalamazoo Friar, assisted with the ceremony along with Executive Asst. Ben Dandrow and Marshal Frank Hanchak. District Master Yekulis presided during the ceremony. Afterward, the Buchanan Assembly provided dinner for everyone

“On Tuesday August 20th, Master Joe Yekulis, Exec. Asst. Ben Dandrow, and Sr. Marshal Bill Currie traveled to the Portland K of C Hall to install the members of Westphalia Assembly #1509 and Dewitt Assembly #2982 for the new fraternal year. Then on Wednesday August 21st, MFD Yekulis and Sr. Marshal Currie conducted the Officer Installation Ceremony for the four Lansing area assemblies. In sequential order of the photos, they were E. Lansing Assembly #3334, Bishop Albers Lansing Assembly #496, Owosso Assembly #511, and Charlotte Assembly #2815. Fr. Michael Skrocki from St. Joseph Greek Melkite Church was sworn in to be the Faithful Friar of Bishop Albers Assembly #496.”

On Wednesday August 14, 2024. Master Yekulis & Sr. Marshal Currie conducted the officer installations for the Ann Arbor 0489 & Howell 2050.

Assemblies at the Dexter Hall during the annual Cardinal O’Hara #0489 corn roast. It began with a flag retirement ceremony, and was followed by dinner and the installation. Over 125 Knights & ladies were in attendance. 

On 8/7/24, District Master Joe Yekulis, Sr. Marshal Bill Currie & Marshal Chuck Loader installed four 4th Degree Assemblies at Holy Redeemer Parish in Burton. Fr. George’s presided at Mass, & photos were taken of Burton #510, Davison #523, Flushing #2211, & Fenton #2031 for Knights in Action.

On Tuesday August 6th, Master Joe Yekulis traveled with Marshal Dave Censke to St. Stanislaus Parish in Dorr, MI to install three Assemblies in the Kalamazoo Diocese. They were Ostego #2135, Kalamazoo #513, and Paw Paw #522. A beautiful mass was provided by Fr. Derda that evening along with a fine meal in the parish hall.

The Memorial Mass for SK Robert H. Cowels was well attended by the District #2 Color Corp!   A Chalice was presented to the Cowels family (SK David, Bob’s son).  The Cowels family was most appreciative with many compliments.

 

The first officer installation for the new fraternal year took place on 7/23/24 at St. Joseph Shrine in the Irish Hills for the Hudson (photo 1) and Jackson (photo 2) Assemblies.  Fr. Enzo Addari from St. Louis Center presided at Mass as our fill-in Friar, and a BBQ beef brisket meal was enjoyed by all. 

The Assembly 0496 / Assembly 3334 Awards Banquet was held in Lansing at Columbus Hall on June 18th. Members  were recognized for their Contributions and Assistance this past fraternal year .. Master Joe Yekulis also recognized our newest members who were in attendance.

 

 

The 100th anniversary mass of Our Lady of the Lake celebration with the Bishop, Father Raz and the St. John XXlll Assembly Color Corps.

On Sunday May 5, 2024, Fr. William J. Turner of St. Mary Parish in Chelsea drew the winning ticket for the 3rd Annual District 2 Quilt Raffle to raise funds for our Veteran Support programs. The winner was Chelsea K of C Council #3092 member Scott York, seen here with District Master Joe Yekulis

On Saturday May 11th, Very Rev. Bishop Earl Boyea ordained seven new deacons for the Diocese of Lansing. The MI D2 Honor Guard had an opportunity to assist in the ceremonies held at St. Thomas Aquinas in E. Lansing, and the members pictured were from Ann Arbor Assembly #0489, Westphalia Assembly #1509, and Brighton Assembly #2050. They were led by District Master Joe Yekulis, FM David A. Buick, and Sr. Marshal Bill Currie.

On Saturday April 20th, MI District 2 of the Fourth Degree Exemplified 107 new Sir Knights at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Brighton, MI. Former State Chaplain, Fr. Paul Erickson, was the Class Honoree, and Fr. Evelio Rameriz from Otsego Assembly #2135 and Fr. Georges Bidzogo from Burton Assembly $510 were also exemplified in this class. Sixty-nine ladies attended the Ladies Program, and 290 attended the banquet. Guest speakers were FN Don Powell of Brighton Assembly #2050, Master Joseph Yekulis, Former Master David Buick, Fr. Paul Erickson, and PSD/Supreme Regional Membership Director William Chasse’.

The chalice presentation of SK Gary Bradley’s chalice to Seminarian Benjamin King on Tuesday, February 27th. FN Don Powell and HG Commander Michael Babiuk of Assembly 2050 in Howell performed the Honors.   Benjamin King is currently studying to become a priest within the Miles Christi priestly order.

 

On Saturday Feb. 10, 2024, the Honor Guard of the Kalamazoo Diocese led by Kalamazoo Marshal David Censke, participated in a 5 p.m.Mass with Bishop Edward Lohse. The event took place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Battle Creek, and was in honor of the Feast of St. Louis Sanchez del Rio, the Patron Saint of their School Chapel.

On Thursday December 7, 2023, new VAVS Representative Brian Wemple joined Master Joe Yekulis and Lady Denise at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek to present the District check to Volunteer Director Todd Greenman. MI District 2 allocated $1,500 from Operation Patriotism to provide the Battle Creek VA with services for Mother and Baby Care, Mental Health Care, and Nursing Home Care for our Veterans in the Kalamazoo Diocese. Day 2 of Operation Patriotism week continued with a visit to the New Hope Center in Downtown Lansing on Larch St. to meet with staff for their annual donation. District Master Joe Yekulis and FN James Martellini of Assembly #496 in Lansing met with Director Nancy Osborn to present a check for $1,000 to the New Hope Center. An affiliate of Holy Cross Services, the NHC provides services to homeless veterans on the second floor of their operation to provide them with shelter and resources.
On Monday, December 4, 2023, MI District 2’s Operation Patriotism continued to deliver Christmas cheer as representatives visited Fisher House at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital. Fisher House is a free program for families who need a place to stay, while their Veteran family member is being treated at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. District Master Joe Yekulis, Lady Denise, and VAVS Rep John Yanok presented a $1500 check to representatives Steven Rose and April LaRock along with 27 lap blankets made by the Women’s Program worth $750. These amounts will be matched by a donor, making this donation worth $4,500.


On November 7th, new SK James Laske from Kalamazoo  Assembly #513 was awarded a new sword to go with the new uniform he ordered on the night of the 87th Exemplification. Congratulations to James and his Lady Kathy.The Blue Star Service Dog program held its annual graduation ceremony on November 17th for 6 graduating veterans. Howell assembly #2050 was on hand for the pledge of allegiance and donated $6000 from their car show held this summer. MI District 2 also added $250 from operation patriotism to the cause.
Veterans Day was a glorious day for our Jackson Assembly #2186. We participated in two wonderful Patriotic Dedications that perfectly represented our commitment to the 4th Degree Principle of Patriotism that all Assembly members should be proud of. It was very fitting that these ceremonies occurred on Veterans Day. 
The first dedication was at Woodland Cemetery with the unveiling and dedication of the plaque honoring Revolutionary War Patriot Private Joseph Darling. This was the project that Sir Knight David VanHoof brought before the Assembly for financial support. David is Vice President General Great Lakes District National Sons of the American Revolution. We received two wonderful Certificates from them for our Support of the SAR and for Our Exemplary Patriotism in the Display of the Flag for our efforts in putting up the flags on the Patriotic Holidays. I will have these Certificates at the December meeting. 
The second dedication was the new flagpole at St John Cemetery at the foot of the Lost Soldier Monument. This too was a wonderful ceremony enhanced by the participation from members of SAR and various Veterans groups who stayed over from the Plaque dedication, and Fr Tim MacDonald who delivered prayers, benedictions, and blessing the plaque and flagpole. State Representative Kathy Schmaltz 46th District was in attendance and is pictured  in the attached picture. Kathy is a strong supporter of Life.

Honor Guard Detail for the Veneration of St. Jude at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Ann Arbor


This year Assembly 0500 Veterans collection went to the Branch County Veterans Agency. They assured us that the items would go to homeless Veterans in the area and if Battle Creek VA needed anything they would help. 

Congratulations to Assembly #500 in Bronson for a job well done!

 

The three assemblies from the Kalamazoo Area gathered together on Tuesday August 29th for their Mass and Officer Installation hosted by St. Mary Parish and Fr. Jose’ Haro on the northside of Kalamazoo. After the Mass and Installation, a spaghetti dinner was prepared by Kalamazoo Hospitality Director Stephen Lewis for all to enjoy at the parish center. The three assemblies and their Faithful Navigators were Kalamazoo Assembly #513 Dale Boone, Paw Paw Assembly #522 (Michael Austermann) and Otsego Assembly #2135 (Richard Van Eizenga).


“Most Rev. Bishop Boyea was at St. Louis Center in Chelsea on Sunday August 27, 2023 to rededicate St. Joseph’s Hall for residents with I/DD following an $800,000 upgrade. Members of the Ann Arbor and Howell Assemblies were present to assist in the Mass and special dedication ceremony.”

Sr. Marshal Bill Currie joined D2 Master Joe Yekulis for a joint Officer Installation Ceremony at St. Joseph Shrine in the Irish Hills on Tuesday August 22nd. Rev. Zachary Mabee served as the Faithful Friar for both assemblies during the ceremonies, and the group enjoyed a great meal of pulled pork prepared by FN Mark Studnicka. FN/DD Ben Dandrow was sworn in for the first time as the new Navigator for the Jackson Assembly.



Westphalia Assembly #1509 and Dewitt Assembly #2982Once again, D2 Master Yekulis and Sr. Marshal Currie traveled to Fowler, MI to install the two assemblies of Westphalia and Dewitt at the Fowler Conservation Club surrounded by beautiful rolling farmland. FN Bill Vallier represented the Westphalia Assembly, while FN Jeffrey Archer returned as the new navigator for the Dewitt Assembly. Forty people were present to enjoy a great chicken bbq that had been prepared that day.

Anthony Strouse presiding. The assemblies of Burton, Davison, Fenton, Flushing and Mt. Morris were installed that night. On Tuesday August 1st, the Assemblies of Bronson and Battle Creek were installed at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Bronson, followed by a nice meal at the Bronson K of C Hall.”

 


The Most Reverend Edward M. Lohse was ordained and installed as the Fifth Bishop of the Kalamazoo Diocese on Tuesday afternoon July 25, 2023. The Principal Ordaining Bishop was the Most Reverend Allen H. Vigneron, Archbishop of Detroit in the presence of Cardinal-designate Christopher Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the USA. The Michigan Knights of Columbus were represented by State Deputy Christopher Kolomjec, State Chaplain Rev. Aiden Logan, State Warden Dan Fuller, and Immediate PSD Walter Winkle. The MI District 2 Honor Guard was led by Master Joe Yekulis, Sr. Marshal Bill Currie, and a group of 10 members from throughout the Kalamazoo Diocese. We congratulate Bishop Lohse on this special honor, and look forward to working with him in the Diocese of Kalamazoo. 

Sir Knights from Michigan District 1 and the 5th Ontario District joined together to help celebrate the Ste. Anne Novena Mass on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at the Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit, celebrating French Heritage. Nine days of Masses celebrating different cultural heritages in Detroit precede the July 26th Feast of Ste. Anne and St. Joachim.

Master Joe Yekulis and Former Master Bob Vandesteene met with Mt. Morris Assembly #524 on Tuesday July 18th to assist with their election of officers. Longtime member SK Lou Bryan was chosen to lead the Assembly for the 2023-24 Fraternal Year.
Navigator of Lansing’s Bishop Albers Assembly 0496 SK Ronald and Lady Philomena Pioch were both laid to rest at St Joseph Cemetery in a joint funeral, surrounded by 22 members of the Honor Guard.    May they Rest in Peace and See the Angles of Paradise ..

On Wednesday May 17, 2023, District Master Joe Yekulis traveled to Battle Creek Assembly #505 to present new SK Paul Rose with the sword he won during the 86th Exemplification for being the first to order a new uniform. SK Rose expects to receive his new uniform any day now to assist in the Ordination ceremonies at the Cathedral during the next two weekends in Kalamazoo.

On Monday May 8, 2023, the Herman J. Fedewa Assembly #2050 of Howell delivered a $1000 donation check to the Ann Arbor VA Hospital. The 86th Exemplification of MI District 2 took place on Saturday April 29, 2023. There were 61 new Sir Knights exemplified into the Fourth Degree at St. Gerard Parish in Lansing, and 50 beautiful ladies were in attendance at the Ladies Program. Two hundred fifteen people attended the evening banquet, and Supreme Regional Growth Director/PSD William Chasse was the Class Honoree.



On Monday March 27th, Master Joe Yekulis and VAVS Director John Yanok visit the training center for Blue Star Service Dogs in Livingston County to deliver a $250 check from Operation Patriotism to Director Christine Myran. Also pictured is the entrance sign and a Vet and Trainer working with a new service dog.
Members of MI District 2 traveled to Little Caesar’s Arena for K of C Night on March 23rd. 265 Knights and Ladies are pictured at Center Ice, while SK’s Gene and Matt Wierzgac, Mike Babiuk, and Lady Denise and Master Joe Yekulis enjoyed being at Center Ice after the game.

“Twenty members of Cardinal O’Hara Assembly (and one from #2050), came together at St. Louis Center on Saturday March 11 for a Lenten Retreat led by Servants of Charity Fr. Franklin Arokiodoss.  It was a great day to be a Sir Knight”

This past Thursday, March 9, 2023, Worthy Comptroller, Tom Kehr and Faithful Admiral James Pitsch from K of C Assembly 2135 delivered three gross of toothpaste and toothbrushes with a $1,000.00 check to the Battle Creek Veterans Administration VAVS for our Veterans who are housed there and for our Homeless Veterans. The money will be used for in-house activities as our Veterans are still in lockdown as COVID continues to affect the operations there. If your Council or Assembly makes a direct donation to our VA Centers in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek or Wyoming, please let me know so that we can be sure to honor your group for your charity to our Veterans. Also please consider joining us with a donation of $250.00 to Operation Patriotism’Thank you and God bless.

Feb. 25, 2023 was the State Chaplain’s Tribute Banquet for the MI K of C, and on behalf of the MI Patriotic 4th Degree I presented a new sword and baldric to State Chaplain Aiden Logan along with D1 Master Gene Shuchyta. Fr. Logan has been a Chaplain to the Navy, USMC and USAF, and it was an honor to make this presentation in front of the 460 Knights and their wives gathered together at Zuccarro’s in Chesterfield Twp. God bless America!

New SK David Censkes of Battle Creek Assembly #505 receives his new sword after purchasing a new uniform on the night of his initiation into the Fourth Degree. Presenting the sword was District Master Joe Yekulis with the help of FN Brian Wemple on November 16, 2022 at St. Philip Parish in Battle Creek. 
Faithful Navigator Brian Wemple of Assembly #505 and District 2 Master Joe Yekulis present a $1500 check to Volunteer Services Staff Member Joe Devyak on November 16, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek from Operation Patriotism. The donation supports three important VA programs during the Christmas holidays. 
District Master Joe Yekulis presented new Sir Knight Dan Burke (holding sword) with his new sword after his wife Wendi purchased a new uniform for him on their way home from the October 15th Exemplification in Michigan Center. Although they were unable to interact directlywith the Veterans due to Covid19 restrictions, the gifts were given to Stephen Sparr, Chief of Development and Engagement at the Ann Arbor facility to be distributed throughout the hospitalDecember 2, 2021             MI K of C Fourth Degree Supports Repatriation of WWII Marine            Augusta, MIA WWII Marine who fought in the Battle of the Pacific was brought home to the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan to be interred at his final resting place on Tuesday November 30, 2021. Marine Corps Corporal Andrew Pellerito was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force when it landed in the Tarawa Atoll in the Pacific against heavy Japanese resistance on November 20, 1943. He was killed on the first day of the battle, and his remains were considered non-recoverable. However he was recently identified through DNA testing on August 19, 2021, and returned to Michigan for a full military burial.Accompanied by approximately 30 family members and friends, ten members of the Fourth Degree Honor Guard of the Michigan Knights of Columbus from three districts in the Father Hennepin Province were present to support the full military service, along with a dozen active duty Marines and ten members of the Ft. Former Masters of Michigan come together at the home of FM Bob Godi in Reese, MI as members of the “Former Masters Club.” The current Master of Michigan were also invited to attend.
The beautiful Ladies of the Former Masters also came together for a photo at the home of Bob Godi on Saturday August 28th.

District 2 Master Joe Yekulis and Lady Denise had the privilege of meeting his eminence, Raymond Cardinal Burke, following his presentation Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas parish in East Lansing on Thursday May 27th. Cardinal Burke was in the Lansing Diocese supporting Catholic Healthcare International, and their efforts to build a St. Padre Pio Spiritual Center in Howell. District 2 Fourth Degree Color Corps members supported three Masses at Holy Spirit (5/25), St. Mary Star of the Sea (5/26), and St. Thomas Aquinas (5/27). Thank you to all of the Color Corps members who gave their time for the Cardinal and these three Masses.

Members of Lansing Assembly #3334 raised the Colors for the start of the Roe v Wade Memorial service at the State Capitol on Wednesday January 27, 2021. Participants were (L to R) State Deputy Walter Winkle, Sr. Marshal Bill Currie, Dan Reinecke and Ken Balcer. Several hundred people were on hand to pray for the aborted children of Michigan who lost their lives as a result of this landmark Supreme Court decision in 1973.01/22/2021Observance of 48 years of legal abortion included nearly 100 vehicles. The witness of an unknown woman who stood in the cold on the side of MLK Jr. Dr. and stopped to pray while the motorcade passed was a beautiful witness and showed the spirit of Pro-Life people.Thank you to the clergy and legislative leaders who provided beautiful prayer and reflection on this somber day:
